Während in der ersten Abhandlung [Acta Math. 16, 65–140 (1892; JFM 24.0337.02)] die Frage nach dem absoluten Maximum oder Minimum eines Doppelintegrals erledigt worden ist, wird jetzt die nach dem relativen extremen Werte völlig im Anschluss an jene Arbeit und dem darin befolgten Gedankengange behandelt. Es werden die notwendigen und hinreichenden Bedingungen dafür ermittelt, dass das Integral
\[ J_0 = \iint F^0 (x,y,z,x',\dots,z'')\,du\,dv \]
einen extremen Wert annimmt, während
\[ J' = \iint F'(x,y,z,x',\dots,z'')\,du\,dv \]
einen gegebenen Wert behält. Im Anschluss hieran wird eine Erweiterung zweier Steinerschen Sätze, die Hr. Weierstrass für einfache Integrale analytisch bewiesen hat, für Doppelintegrale gegeben.
