A new scattering kernel in kinetic theory of gases. (English) Zbl 0874.76076
Summary: A new scattering kernel, giving boundary conditions for the Boltzmann equation, is introduced, exploiting a purely mathematical method already known, but never used until recently. The kernel is used to calculate the accommodation coefficients appearing in velocity slip, and to derive formulas for temperature jump in transitional regime for rarefied gases. Drag, lift and heat transfer coefficients in free molecular flow are also calculated and evaluated numerically; some results are compared with experiment.
