Appendix to the article by H. Zeitler: Mathematicians and mathematical education: the didact Emanuel Sperner. (Appendix zum Artikel von Zeitler: Mathematiker und Mathematikunterricht.) (German) Zbl 1127.01011

In this Appendix to H. Zeitler [ibid. 25, 5–13 (2006; Zbl 1125.01018)], the authors mention four famous German mathematicians living in the first half of the 20th century and being interested in questions of mathematics education, namely Felix Klein, Hans Freudenthal, Heinrich Behnke, Hans Zassenhaus. Moreover, they note five influential textbooks of the same period mostly on geometry and algebra. The authors are Hilbert, van der Waerden, Schreier-Sperner, Zassenhaus, Bourbaki (sic!). The common style of these books is characterized by an emphasis on abstract structures, on axiomatisation, and formalisation.
