A study on first-order-second-moment method in structural reliability. (English) Zbl 0577.73047
Summary: This paper proposes a new method for searching the best linearization point in the advanced first-order-second-moment method. It is compared with the methods by Rackwits-Fiessler and Chen-Lind [R. Rackwitz, B. Fiessler, Comput. Struct. 9, 489-494 (1978; Zbl 0402.73071); X. Chen and N. C. Lind, Struct. Safety 2, 65 ff. (1984)], and demonstrated to be efficient. The proposed method is appllied to reliability analysis of a column subjected to a combined load effect to examine the effect of the linear and nonlinear failure criteria on the resulting reliability.
