Summary: We prove a value distribution theorem for meromorphic functions having few poles, from which we obtain several interesting results which improve some results of W. Doeringer [Pac. J. Math. 98, 55–62 (1982; Zbl 0445.30025)], C. C. Yang [Math. Z. 125, 107–112 (1972; Zbl 0217.38402)], G. P. Barker and A. P. Singh [Comment. Math. Univ. St. Pauli 29, 183–191 (1980; Zbl 0452.30017)], and others.
