We describe a method based on the computation of the “error on the constitutive relation” which depends on the mesh and on the loading history for nonlinear materials. The control of the error evolution along the loading path is realized by mesh changes in order to maintain the error level in an admissible interval prescribed by the user. Two procedures are described, each one being based on the automatic definition and construction of quasi-optimal meshes.
