Pireaux, Sophie Light deflection in Weyl gravity: constraints on the linear parameter. (English) Zbl 1072.83024 Classical Quantum Gravity 21, No. 18, 4317-4333 (2004). The author takes Weyl’s conformally invariant theory of gravity for serious and produces bounds for its free parameter \(\gamma_W\) (which vanishes in Einstein’s theory) by analyzing measurements of astronomical light deflection: solar system experiments, gravitational lensing effect, cosmological estimates. The Cassini Doppler experiment gives approximately \(\gamma_W\leq 10^{-19} m^{-1}\), while gravitational mirage observations further constrain the range to \(-10^{-31} m^{-1}<\gamma_W< 0\). The paper improves former estimates of the constants of Weyl’s theory. It strongly refers to earlier papers of the author herself.
