Numerical model of Richard’s equation based on an ordinary differential equation solver. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 1143.76543

Summary: A numerical model of Richard’s equation is developed using van Genuchten model to reconcile accuracy, stability and efficiency of the solution. Richard’s equation is transformed into ordinary differential equations through spatial discretization, which are then solved using a software package (CVODE solver) with adaptive time-step size control. The soil moisture retention curve and water balance are tested. The results show that the model is efficient with high performance and stability.
