The effectiveness of an adaptive solver for solving initial value problems in ordinary differential equations. (English. Chinese original) Zbl 0896.65049

Chin. J. Numer. Math. Appl. 14, No. 2, 101-104 (1992); translation from J. Numer. Methods Comput. Appl. 12, No. 4, 254-257 (1991).
Summary: In order to identify the effectiveness of an adaptive solver for solving stiff problems in ordinary differential equations, seventy-two stiff problems given by W. H. Enright, T. E. Hull and B. Lindberg [BIT, Nordisk Tidskr. Inform.-behandl. 15, 10-48 (1975; Zbl 0301.65040)] were solved. The numerical tests show that the adaptive solver is dominant in comparison with C. W. Gear’s automatic code DIFSUB [Numerical initial value problems in ordinary differential equations (1971; Zbl 1145.65316)].
