Huang, Minfeng Coordinates of principal stresses for elastic plane problem. (English) Zbl 0889.73007 Appl. Math. Mech., Engl. Ed. 18, No. 2, 157-162 (1997). Summary: We discuss the equilibrium equations in orthogonal curvilinear coordinates formed by curves of principal stresses, and illustrate their properties through a simple example. Thus we present an alternative way to solve elasticity problems, i.e., by assumption of orthogonality of curves of principal stresses.
