Applications of Johnson PDF fitting. (English) Zbl 1154.62300

Summary: Studying statistical variation relies on tools that address the data in both a descriptive and inferential manner. This includes fitting probability density functions to data, particularly small samples of data. This paper reviews several Excel-based tools (JFit, DCAT and PEM) that have been developed by the authors. These tools are easy to use and can aid immensely in interpreting and analyzing data. The tool JFit implements the moments matching (MM) method for finding the parameters for the Johnson Family of distributions. DCAT provides a quick visualization of data and how well JFit fits the data. PEM implements JFit to analyze complex functional formulations.
