The symmetrization iteration method for the coupling of boundary element method and finite element method. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 0611.73082

An efficient algorithm is presented for the analysis of problems in two dimensional elastostatics by the coupling of BEM and FEM. Since the boundary element siffness matrix is generaly asymmetrical the results based on varieties of symmetric stiffness matrices have low accuracy. The paper presents the symmetrization-iteration method for the coupling of BEM and FEM which not only solves the equations with symmetric matrix but also considers the influence of the asymmetry of the boundary element stiffness matrix. The computer program of the method is suited for two dimensional elastostatics. Quadratic isoparametric representations of the boundary geometry and variables are described which allow for discontinuities in boundary tractions.
