Prandtl-guidebook to fluid dynamics. 10. Aufl. (Prandtl-Führer durch die Strömungslehre. Unter Mitarb. von D. Etling, U. Müller, U. Riedel, J. Warnatz.) (German) Zbl 1012.76001

Braunschweig: Vieweg. xii, 618 S. DM 164.00; öS 1197.00; sFr 141.00 (2001).
This is a completely revised, updated and enlarged 10th edition of the well-known standard book on fluid mechanics first published by Ludwig Prandtl in 1931. Since there is no need to list all the merits of this classical work [for the review of the 8th ed. see (1984; Zbl 0613.76001)], we concentrate here only on new additions. The most important are: chapter 7 “Instabilities in fluid mechanics”; chapter 12 “Biological fluid dynamics”; subchapters “Topology of fluid flow” and “Non-Newtonian flows”. Additionally, essentially revised are chapter 9 by U. Müller “Multiphase flows”, chapter 10 by J. Warnatz and U. Riedel “Flows with chemical reactions”, and chapter 11 by D. Etling “Atmospheric flows and ocean flows”.
To summarize, editor H. Oertel jun. and his colleagues have produced a well-balanced book, which, in the spirit of Prandtl, presents practically all relevant modern trends in “non-computational” fluid mechanics.
