The author studies a subject of Galileo’s Discorsi where he treats of the breaking of a beam and the evolution of his ideas through the works of Mariotte, Leibniz and Jacob Bernoulli. The Galileo impulse is also found in ulterior works of Newton, Cauchy and Mascheroni.
