Haunsperger, Deanna B. Dictionaries of paradoxes for statistical tests on \(k\) samples. (English) Zbl 0769.62034 J. Am. Stat. Assoc. 87, No. 417, 149-155 (1992). Statistical procedures based on ranks typically have the undesirable property that the ordering of \(m\) candidates (subjects, treatments) may heavily depend on the subset of candidates to be included in the analysis. The notion of a “dictionary” is introduced consisting of all “words” which may arise in ordering the candidates within subsets. The Kruskal-Wallis test is investigated in greater detail.
