The work of Grigory Perelman. (English) Zbl 1151.01017

Sanz-Solé, Marta (ed.) et al., Proceedings of the international congress of mathematicians (ICM), Madrid, Spain, August 22–30, 2006. Volume I: Plenary lectures and ceremonies. Zürich: European Mathematical Society (EMS) (ISBN 978-3-03719-022-7/hbk). 66-76 (2007).
The paper under review is the author’s laudatio presented on the ICM congress in Madrid, Spain, on the work Grigory (Grisha) )Perelman who was awarded the Fields Medal for his contributions to geometry and his revolutionary insights into the analytical and geometric structure of the Ricci flow. Perelman’s approach to Thurston geometrization conjecture including his surgery algorithm to handle Ricci flow singularities and analysis of the long-time behavior is discussed.
