Alekhin, V. V. Optimization of a laminated cylinder and shere of minimal weight in the presence of constraints. (Russian) Zbl 0578.73088 Nestatsionarnye Problemy Mekhaniki Sploshnykh Sred, Din. Sploshnoj Sredy 65, 3-9 (1984). Summary: Given the following problem: minimum weight design of a cylindrical shell and a sphere out of a finite set of elastic homogeneous isotropic materials. The cylinder and the sphere are subjected to inner and outer hydrostatic pressures. Constraints are imposed on the second invariant of the deviator of the stress tensor and on the size of the bodies. Necessary optimality conditions are derived by variational methods and a numerical algorithm is given. An example completes the discussion.
