Summary: In the nonhomogeneous elastic material there propagates the one- dimensional wave. Two virtual elastic homogeneous layers of infinitesimal thickness are introduced. The solutions for the two layers allow to define the amplitudes of the waves propagating in the inhomogeneous material. The reflection coefficient for the inhomogeneous layer of finite thickness is defined. Three examples of smooth transition are considered. Two considered structures are perfectly transparent, the third has finite reflection coefficient.
