Finite element analysis for engineers. With software Z88 Aurora and examples on DVD. 4th revised and expanded ed. (Finite Elemente Analyse für Ingenieure.) (German) Zbl 1259.00003

München: Fachbuchverlag Leipzig im Carl Hanser Verlag (ISBN 978-3-446-42776-1/hbk; 978-3-446-43469-1/ebook). 650 p. (2012).
This very important and useful book (the 4th expanded and revised edition) covers theoretical and computation aspects of the finite element method for solving boundary value problems for ordinary and partial differential equations arising in mechanics of elastic or non-elastic (elasto-plastic) solids (columns, frames, beams, sheets, plates, shells). Engineers will be particularly interested in the shear forces in plate and shell structures where most elements are seen to produce poor results. Shell element technology has been an important area of research for some time now and there is still the potential for significant additional developments. FEM for Engineers is a combination of book and software which illustrates the element technology of beams, bars, sheets and plates, shells. This software will enable structural engineers to perform their stress analyses and transient dynamics in beams, bars, columns and sheets, plates, shell structures. It seems redundant to say that modern requirements imposed upon engineering and technology demand that an introductory course in engineering emphasize basic concept and principles rather than solutions to specific problems. It is in this spirit that the present outstanding book is written.
The present book offers a clear explanation of finite element analysis in theory and practice. In 4th issue, the reader is getting alongside the full version of the source FEA programs Z88W14 a new freeware program Z88 Aurora for Windows, UNIX/LINUX and MAC on the enclosed DVD supplied. Source code Z88W14 allows ambitious users to personalize the FEA program. Z88 Aurora does not excel only through a graphical user interface, but also other computational methods such as stationary heat conduction, nonlinear geometric calculations of strength and self-oscillation calculation are feasible in these programs. Compared with 3rd issue, the theoretical part of the calculation of shell elements and associated methods of analysis of stationary heat conduction, self-oscillation and geometric nonlinearity have been amplified. Now, with 32 examples, which are also supplied on DVD, can the reader know and understand FEA better.
