The main topic of the book is the simulations of one-, two- and three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in laminar and turbulent regimes. The author describes concrete links between theory and practice, offering a large number of codes which allow to handle the Navier-Stokes equations and to understand the complex physics related to fluid mechanics. A large part of the book is devoted to the study of homogeneous and wall turbulent flows. The book includes large eddy simulation methodology since in the near future it will allow to treat universal turbulence models sufficient for practical applications. The finite difference method is used to solve parabolic and elliptic partial differential equations in Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates The direct numerical simulations of Navier-Stokes equations reproduce satisfactorily the dynamics of turbulent flows. The results for turbulent and laminar flows are discussed with particular emphasis on vortex dynamics.par A well-balanced mix between the theory and the wide range of applications makes this volume of great interest to all practitioners of computational fluid dynamics: engineers, researches, teachers and graduate students.
