TeLoDe swMATH ID: 953 Software Authors: Paraskakis, Iraklis Description: TeLoDe (Teaching Linear Ordinary Differential Equations) is an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS), teaching how to solve Linear Second Order Ordinary Differential Equations with Constant Coefficients. TeLoDe augments Maple, a Computer Algebra System (CAS) by incorporating a teaching strategy module and declarative knowledge. TeLoDe’s teaching module is informed by SIMTA (Styles implemented by Methods Tactics and Actions). In SIMTA the contemporary concept of teaching strategy is rethought and viewed at two fundamental levels: organisational level and operational level. The organisational level deals with the structure of the teaching strategy whereas the operational level deals with the manifestation of that structure. A triple generic structure, method, tactic(s), action(s) represents the organisational level. The teaching style in TeLoDe is the expository style drawing from Ausubel’s theory of meaningful reception learning. The expository style, utilising the declarative knowledge, provides the students with an environment where they are encouraged to actively construct their knowledge.
