The equations from the work of \textit{A. C.~Eringen} [J. Math. Mech. 15, 909-923 (1966; Zbl 0145.21302)] are used to describe the wave process in viscous micropolar incompressible liquid contacting with an elastic body. The authors study the propagation of surface shear waves in the body, and determine the phase velocity and damping coefficient. The damping coefficient is shown to decrease when the boundary viscosity increases.
